Athanasios was recommended to me by a friend who is also learning Greek, and I’m so glad I am taking lessons with him! He is incredibly kind and patient, and he really takes the time to understand what each student needs. I've been learning Greek with Athanasios for the last 4 months, 2 lessons a week, after moving to Crete. After a month of trying to learn with Duolingo and in a group I felt these were not effective looked for 1:1 lessons. A friend who mastered Greek recommended me to try Athanasios.
After 4 months I can look back and say that the progress is felt continuously. I am able to talk broken Greek, understand slowly, and read.
We spend more than half of each lesson conversing while he is typing on the screen the whole conversation as we speak, stopping to discuss and explain whatever is not clear on the go. This is the core of the class and where i get more confident in talking, listening and reading, combined.
The rest of the class is dedicated to grammar and exercises. I tend to be exhausted at the end of the hour which is the best sign of serious learning :) Athanasios also sends the transcript of everything we did as a clear doc file which allows practicing offline.
Overall I'm enjoying this type of learning and find it very effective.

Ο Αθανάσιος είναι πολύ καλός καθηγητής. Είμαι Γερμανίδα και είμαι περίπου στο επίπεδο Α2. Έκανα μαθήματα ελληνικών μαζί του. Προσαρμόζεται πολύ στους μαθητές του: αν θέλεις να μιλήσεις, να γράψεις ή να κάνεις γραμματική, βοηθάει με όλα.
Μου αρέσει πολύ που κάνει πολλές ερωτήσεις, για να συνεχίζεται η συζήτηση. Αυτό βοηθάει πάρα πολύ όταν αρχίζεις να μιλάς ή όταν θέλεις να εξασκηθείς περισσότερο. Επίσης νιώθω ότι έχουμε πάντα αρκετά θέματα για συζήτηση.
Επίσης γράφει πάντα τις λέξεις που δεν ξέρω σε ένα έγγραφο και μοιράζεται την οθόνη του. Αν θέλω, τις μεταφράζει και στα αγγλικά. Μετά από κάθε μάθημα μου στέλνει το έγγραφο. Ταυτόχρονα μου αφήνει χρόνο να γράφω μόνη μου στο τετράδιό μου, γιατί θέλω να μάθω να γράφω πραγματικά με το χέρι.
Έχει ταξιδέψει πολύ, είναι ενδιαφέρων άνθρωπος και μένει στην Κρήτη. Μαζί του μαθαίνεις και πολλά για την ελληνική κουλτούρα. Και τον βρίσκω πολύ συμπαθητικό. Τον συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα, αν θέλεις να βελτιώσεις γρήγορα τα ελληνικά σου.

Γνώρισα τον Σάκη στο italki πριν από περίπου 3 χρόνια. Εκείνη την εποχή είχα πολλές δυσκολίες στο να μάθω ελληνικά και με τους άλλους δασκάλους τα μαθήματα ήταν λίγο στατικά. Με τον Σάκη ανακάλυψα μια άλλη πλευρά της ελληνικής γλώσσας και άρχισα να μαθαίνω πραγματικά ελληνικά διασκεδάζοντας.

Το στυλ του είναι χαλαρό και ευέλικτο και μαζί του κατάφερα να φτάσω στο επίπεδο Β1 πολύ γρήγορα. Προτείνω τον Σάκη σε όλους όσοι θέλουν να μάθουν να μιλούν πραγματικά ελληνικά και παράλληλα να διασκεδάζουν.

I have been having Greek lessons with Athanasios for the past 21 months, and I can certainly recommend him as a teacher.

Learning languages does not come particularly naturally to me, especially when it comes to understanding things like verbs, nouns, adjectives and grammar. Athanasios has always been extremely patient, helpful and willing to explain things in a way that I can understand. He has helped me enormously with the different aspects of Greek that I need to learn and has always been very encouraging.

I originally came to Athanasios through the recommendation of two other people who had also had lessons with him. Interestingly, the three of us have quite different ways of learning, which I think says a lot about Athanasios as a teacher. He is very adaptable and is able to adjust his teaching style to suit the individual student rather than expecting everyone to learn in exactly the same way.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with Athanasios over the past 21 months. He is patient, obliging and genuinely wants his students to progress. I am very happy to recommend him to anyone wanting to learn Greek.

After moving to Greece in April of 2026 from the States, δεν μιλουσα ουτε καταλαβαινα ελληνικα. So, without knowledge or experience, I have searched and scrolled through so many different E-Learning platforms for the right fit. I'm not Greek American or Greek anything, I'm actually 100% American Samoan, which I speak fluent in my native Samoan language. So learning a new language, alphabet, culture, religion, and local traditions has been a huge challenge for myself. Thanks to "Σακησ", he's played a huge role in helping me with some of those barriers, especially with the language piece. He has been on point in creating personalized effective lesson plans to fit my learning and comprehensive needs. He's provided me with huge support, the necessary tools, and of course a tremendous amount of patience and generosity in keeping my ελληνικα growth steadfast. In just the 5 months living in a small village στιν ελλαδα, the locals here have notice the transformation and improvement in my speaking, vocabulary, understanding, and appreciation! It feels amazing! I still have a long road ahead of me... I'm just very thankful I have ΣΑΚΗΣ along with me on this journey to guide me. I’ve tried learning Greek with different teachers over the years, but with him, it simply clicked.

He’s smiley, full of positive energy, incredibly helpful, and most importantly, he knows how to make you learn without making it feel like you’re studying. His methods are fun and very practical. He doesn’t just explain something and move on, he gets you involved, makes you speak, practice, make mistakes, try again, and somehow pulls you into the language before you even realise it.
